Is the new line of Alena T's actually ready? Can the team and other VIP's be blessed with the early release? Could this just be the beginning of summer releases?
Is it true that Mike Fyfe and Alex Fauteux were seen skating the streets of Montreal this past week end? Was it a chance meeting at a local spot or is there a possible motive in bringing the two Alena Team guys together for a session? Is it possible that Mike stumbled home after a night on the town muttering something about some crazy girl? Did the rain the following day, dash the dreams of an epic session at a new found spot?
Is it true that good things, inspiring things are happening everywhere, and you just have to look a bit to find them? Is it also true that they don't always relate to skateboarding directly but if you look close enough you will find the relation?
Is longtime Alena Pusher, world traveller, writer and yoga guy, Zachary Wilkins enjoying fun, sun and close to 25 million neighbors in the little town of Mexico City? Could he be stretching every morning only to go out in the afternoon and abuse his body on a skateboard in only a way Zach can?
Are there rumors of two page spreads and sequences finding their way to the major skateboard magazines the world over true? Are three new kittens keeping him up at night and maybe affecting his goals of rest and relaxation?
Is this summers blowout clothing trend going to be skating in shorts?
Could a run in with Rob prove that old skateboarders really do just want to roll? Will Montreal be witness to him rolling on an Alena Relative deck in the very near future?
Do people fully appreciate the fact that BGHD has just returned to it's original format, the one they started with back in 2001? Does the classic format have you wishing for the days when the hype machine was maybe a little more discerning. Does this add up to more of more of the same?
Is there a slight possibility that the persistent cold weather in Montreal has us seriously considering a move south to a place where it's warm most of the time and chilling at the beach is a real possibility?
Is it getting harder and harder to find the real deal skateshop that actually has skateboarders working the floor?
Could a shop such as this in Thunder Bay now be pushing for Alena? Could said shop lack a website but be ahead of the curve in every other respect? Could the numbers 4 and 14 be a good start in trying to find them?
Is this thing they call the rumor mill over rated?
Could this recession/depression/end of the world financial crisis actually be helping skateboard sales. Specifically soft wheels and Alena Relative boards seem to be replacing cars all over the city.
Is it even slightly plausible that a Montreal shop run by our biking brethren be seriously considering supporting the Alena movement?
No brakes? No gears? Sounds like a skateboard to us.
Could a former Alena MTL employee/team member be stepping up to the stage this Friday April 3rd to let the world know he's got more musical talent in his pinky finger than JR and PR have combined. He might not have the connections and we're guessing there won't be a press conference any time soon but....
we believe.
Could a certain Kent Mac be in training for a big comeback? Or is he staying up late working on plans for the carless city that supports instead of reports, skateboarding and the people that partake in said activity?
Could the one and only Mr Mark Regimbal be working hard on his own art video piece that is said to rival the Gonz and his mid 90's german/fencing/museum/poetry /skateboard show?
Are the rumors of the video premiere happening here on alena-universal.com live true? or is he entertaining offers from other higher profile skate specific websites?
Is there truth to the rumors of an OG Montreal skate shop recently picking up Alena at the request of not just team members but also shop guys who are hearing good things?
Could we be a day away from new footage from Alex and maybe a few pusher updates as well as shop updates?
If you have it in you to get yourself a crusing board this summer (the alena relatives decks are a good option), you know for those relaxing sunday rides to breakfast after a long night out street skating, I think it's a good idea to get yourself some good wheels. The whole soft wheel thing is interesting to me. You can opt for "filmer" wheels. They're similar in shape to a regualr street wheel but they come super soft so you get a nice smooth ride. I've had those in the mix for the last two or three years but I recently switched up for a more classic 70's shape. The difference is obvious and I would suggest you
Back from Jamaica. It was warm and relaxing and I drank too much alcohol but I'm rested and looking forward to spring. Back in Montreal, the cruising board is out and the streets are skate ready... At least for the big soft wheels. now that the R+R is outta the way it's time to get creative again. Maybe...
You may or may not know that Alena Pushers are a group of talented individuals who have an understanding of skateboarding, a love for the energy that comes from skateboarding but maybe are now focusing that energy on other indeavors besides skateboarding. Darren Pasemko is one such pusher. A multifaceted artist (who is right now, working on our next series of decks) he focuses a good chunk of his energy in the world of animation.
Skateboarding in Montreal deserves some noise and as much as I tend to avoid promoting other companies on this site, for obvious reasons..... These guys deserve all the attention they're going to get.
Good stuff and I can't wait to see the whole thing.
I have a thing for architecture. Maybe because it's everywhere and the bad stuff has such an effect on everyday living and maybe because I was invited to look at it differently through the filter of skateboarding, but it's always on my mind.
Ryan Wallace did a piece for the Broken Deck show that we had at Alena MTL. back in 2004. To my eye his work has always had an architectural feel to it and as much as I liked his work then... I really like what he's doing now.
Maybe street art as we remember it is dead. Maybe not. I'm not the guy to ask but this guy and the stuff he did on derelict cars over back in the early part of this decade always got my attention and this morning, while walking through the snow to get a cup of coffee I thought I'd search it out and post it here.
You may have noticed the slight update to the site. We're getting ready for summer. A little Fyfe to hold you over. If you want to look at our product or navigate anywhere else on the site.... Check the bar at the top of the page.
This has nothing to do with skateboarding although we've all picked one up, carried it over to a smooth spot of concrete and had ourselves a sweaty little session....
Ok. I personally refused to believe this was happening for so many reasons. But it is and even though it's a city funded park that you will still have to pay to get into... Everything I'm hearing about it seems to point in the direction of "bananas".
I kind of wished they had changed the name and I kind of wish they would hire a graphic artist to do their site but they have hired Vez and his crew to build the indoor monster.
I had a brief conversation with Mercier today and he's backing it as well as helping with the build.
Could this be a new day dawning for Montreal's small but fickle scene?
Have you seen the Alena Pushers? They are the group of people we stand behind as best we can. We believe in their creative output and i think for the most part they believe in ours. They all at one time or another picked up a skateboard and were propelled by gravity with a little help from urethane and some of them may deny it but it's still there in their DNA just as they are in ours. Artists, photographers, skateboarders, shoemakers, graphic artists, writers and builders. They make our world go round. Check the Pushers section for the rest of the gang.
As we have seen over the last decade Brazil is chock full of really good skateboarders. If these guys put up more footage could someone please let me know.
